Microsoft has officially unveiled Microsoft 365 E7 — the first new enterprise tier in over a decade and the clearest signal yet that the AI-powered workplace is no longer a roadmap slide. It is shipping.
Announced via Partner Center on March 9, 2026, E7 goes generally available on May 1, 2026 at $99 per user per month.
What Is Microsoft 365 E7?
E7 is not an incremental update. It is a full rebundle of Microsoft's enterprise stack around a single idea: the human-led, agent-operated enterprise.
The bundle includes:
- Microsoft 365 E5 — the full productivity, security, compliance, and analytics suite
- Microsoft 365 Copilot — AI assistance across every M365 application
- Microsoft Entra Suite — identity governance, verified ID, workload identities, and network access
- Agent 365 — a brand-new control plane for managing AI agents as enterprise employees
- Work IQ + Trust Layer — shared intelligence and organization-wide AI governance
Microsoft calls it The Frontier Suite.
Agent 365: AI Employees Get an HR Department
The standout component is Agent 365 — a control plane that treats AI agents as first-class members of your organization.
Agents now get:
- Their own Entra ID identity - A dedicated email account, OneDrive, Teams presence, and calendar - Access to Work IQ context — the same organizational intelligence layer that powers Copilot
For IT admins, Agent 365 provides a centralized dashboard in the M365 Admin Center with an agent registry, visual agent maps, automatic risk detection, policy templates, approval workflows, and full activity tracking.
As Microsoft put it: "Agents can now have their own identity, email, OneDrive and Teams accounts, and collaborate just like coworkers."
The Pricing Math
E7's value proposition is straightforward when you stack up the components:
- E5 alone: $57/user/month (rising to ~$60 in July 2026)
- Copilot add-on: $30
- Entra Suite add-on: $12
- Agent 365 standalone: $15
Buying everything à la carte after July would cost $117 per user per month. E7 bundles it all for $99 — an 15% discount.
For existing E5 + Copilot customers paying $87 today, E7 adds Agent 365 ($15 value) and Entra Suite ($12 value) for just $9 more per month — a 67% discount on the added components.
Copilot Wave 3: Agentic AI Goes Mainstream
The E7 announcement arrived alongside Copilot Wave 3, which introduces truly agentic capabilities:
- Copilot Cowork — multi-step task execution where Copilot creates a plan, works in the background, and checks in for approvals
- Multi-model architecture — users can choose between foundation models, or let Copilot auto-select the best one for each task
- Work IQ — a semantic intelligence layer combining emails, meetings, messages, files, and soon Dynamics 365 and Dataverse
- Agentic mode in apps — Word and Excel already ship with agentic capabilities; PowerPoint and Outlook are rolling out
Security Dashboard for AI
Also announced in March: a Security Dashboard for AI (now in public preview) that unifies signals from Defender, Entra, and Purview into a single AI risk view covering agents, applications, and platforms. It is included for Microsoft Security customers at no additional cost.
Key Dates for Partners

- April 1 — CSP incentives activate for Agent 365 via the Copilot + Power Accelerate program (immersion briefings, PoC, deployment accelerators)
- May 1 — Microsoft 365 E7 and Agent 365 go generally available
- June 2–3 — Build 2026 in San Francisco (expect E7 deep dives and customer showcases)

The Frontier Program: Try It Now
Partners and customers with existing M365 Copilot licenses can activate the Frontier Program today — at no cost — to get early hands-on access to Agent 365 and upcoming AI features. Enable it in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Settings → Org Settings → Copilot.
Bottom Line
Microsoft 365 E7 is not just a new SKU. It is Microsoft's bet that every enterprise will need to manage AI agents alongside human employees — and that the companies who figure this out first will have a structural advantage.
With Copilot penetration sitting at just 3.3% of the M365 installed base, the bundle play is designed to remove procurement friction and accelerate adoption. For CSP partners, the incentive structure and pricing math make E7 the most compelling upsell motion since E3-to-E5.
The announcement is live. GA is May 1. The question is whether your organization is ready.
